Feel like a 280 character Tweet isn’t enough to get your point across? Tired of typing and crafting the perfect sentence that fits?
Then Twitter’s latest innovation that is currently being tested might be just what you’re looking for. If you have an iOS device with the Twitter App installed then you might be one of the lucky ones who can now record a voice Tweet!
How do you do this? Tap the “Tweet compose” icon, then the “voice” icon and then the red “record” button. It’s as simple as that. Each voice Tweet lasts for 140 seconds, but if you go other this time limit, then it will automatically be threaded up to 25 tweets. Currently, it’s not possible to Tweet an audio reply or Retweet with a comment.
Your current profile photo will be used as a static image for your audio, so be sure to make sure it’s appropriate for your branding. One cool technical detail is that you will be able to listen to voice Tweets as you scroll through Twitter and when you leave the app as it will appear as an audio dock at the bottom of your screen.
Why has Twitter added this new feature? In the words of their Senior Software Engineer and Staff Product Designer, Remy Bourgoin and Maya Patterson, “sometimes 280 characters aren’t enough and some conversational nuances are lost in translation…There’s a lot that can be left unsaid or uninterpreted using text, so we hope voice Tweeting will create a more human experience for listeners and storytellers alike.”
We certainly agree with this and hope that the use of voice Tweets will help make people’s voices, quite literally, heard!
